The transfer case is located relatively centrally under the pickup and is particularly exposed when crossing crests, in extreme articulation in off-road terrain, hard impacts on rocks, or when driving over thick tree stumps. Mechanical damage at this point usually means the immediate end of the journey and entails immense repair costs.
